Julie Chen is officially stepping down as co-host of CBS’ daytime show The Talk, according to the news editor Rebecca Rubin of the well known entertainment industry news magazine Variety. Her exit comes after her husband, Leslie Moonves, was ousted as chairman-CEO of CBS Corp.

CBS waited until the final minutes of Tuesday’s hour-long episode to address the elephant in the room. In a pre-recorded video message filmed on the set of Big Brother, Julie Chen appeared on the show for the first time in over a week to confirm her departure. Though she didn’t directly address allegations against Moonves, she said, “I need to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son, so I’ve decided to leave The Talk.’

Julie Chen thanked her fellow co-hosts, as well as the entire team behind the CBS show. She got emotional saying, “I have been at The Talk since the day it started nine years ago, and the cast crew and staff have become family to me over the years.”

Julie Chen went on to say, “I will always, always cherish the memories we shared. Most important, I want to thank you, the viewers, for allowing me into your home every day. It was a privilege that I will forever be grateful for.”

After the clip aired, co-host Sara Gilbert expressed solidarity with Chen. “We thank you for eight years of dear friendship and all you did to help the success of the show,” Gilbert said.

Following Tuesday’s episode, CBS issued a statement that reads: “For eight seasons, Julie Chen has co-hosted The Talk with incredible energy, grace and professionalism. Her talents played a big role in our successful launch of CBS’ first network daytime talk show, and in the series growth into an Emmy Award-winning broadcast. All of us here have tremendous appreciation for the dedication and passion she brought to the show every day and for her generous role as an ambassador for CBS Daytime. We are grateful for her many other contributions, respect her decision and wish Julie all the best in everything she does.”

After a number of sexual assault allegations surfaced against Moonves and he was forced out of the company, Chen took a leave of absence from The Talk. On the talkshow, the hosts regularly chat about their personal lives.

Julie Chen is also host of another CBS staple, Big Brother. On Thursday night’s episode of the summer reality show, she signed off by saying “I’m Julie Chen Moonves,” rather than her usual sign off as just “Julie Chen.” Chen is expected to continue has host of Big Brother.

Chen and Moonves, who have been married since 2004, met while Moonves was the president and chief officer of CBS Television and Chen hosted CBS This Morning and Big Brother. Together, they have a son, Charlie. Julie Chen issued a statement ahead of Sept. 10’s edition of The Talk, the day after Moonves resigned, saying she was taking time off to spend with her family.
