Will Smith To Release Russia 2018 World Cup Song
Will Smith looks set to perform the official World Cup song.
Will Smith will release a new song for the tournament on Friday, Billboard and Vibe magazines reported, which he is said to have recorded along with fellow American Nicky Jam and Kosovar singer Era Istrefi.
Will Smith, 49, posted a photo of himself and Nicky Jam on his Instagram account together with an official FIFA World Cup football, adding the caption: “One Life to Live. Live it Up. #WorldCup”
However, FIFA responded cryptically to CNN’s request for a comment: “FIFA and Sony Music have partnered once more to deliver another exciting Official Music Program for FIFA World Cup fans worldwide,” a FIFA spokesperson said. “The line-up of artists and the creative concept behind the 2018 Official Song will be announced soon.”
Throughout its history, the World Cup has featured many high-profile stars from across the musical spectrum.
It is normal for the official World Cup song to be sung either at the beginning or end of the tournament. This year’s World Cup begins in Russia next month.
The official song for the last World Cup in Brazil in 2014 was We Are One (Ole Ola) by Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte.
The 2010 tournament in South Africa had Waka Waka by Shakira.
Thirty-two countries will take part in the World Cup which begins on 14 June.
As his acting career took off in the 1990s, Will Smith also enjoyed success as a recording artist with number one hits such as Boom! Shake the Room but his singing career has taken a back seat to acting in recent years.
Smith’s management company has been also contacted by the Press Association for comment.
