Fans Mourn Korean Pop Star Jonghyun
According to The Sun, Korean pop band SHINee’s lead singer Jonghyun (Kim Jong-hyun), 27, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Gangnam. Local reports said that Kim Jong-hyun, who performed as part of the K-pop mega band Shinee, took his own life.
A statement from Gangnam Police confirmed that the talented musician’s sister called officers with concerns that Kim was threatening to take his own life.
It read: “On December 18, 2017 at 4:42PM Jonghyun’s older sister reported to Police that her brother was about to commit suicide.
“We went to his residence in Chungdam and discovered that he had attempted to commit suicide.
“Emergency responders were with us at the time so we rushed him to the Konkuk University Hospital in a state of cardiac arrest.”
Heartbroken fans are already flooding social media with gushing tributes to Jonghyun.
One tweeted: “Sending my condolence to Shawol and SHINee members and Jong Hyun’s Family, of course.
“Kim Jong Hyun, rest in peace, you’re talented. You’re worth and the best. Once again, rest in peace.”
Earlier this year SHINee released their fifth Japanese album and were touring Japan until April this year.
They also played the Tokyo Dome in September.
The group were formed in 2008 with Jonghyun beginning to write songs for the idols the following year.
SHINee have been called the Princes of K-Pop due to their complex dance routines and incredible live vocals, earning huge hits with songs including Sherlock, Replay, Ring Ding Dong and Dream Girl.
