Kevin Spacey To Portray Gore Vidal In Netflix Biopic
Actor Kevin Spacey is bringing late author and playwright Gore Vidal back to life on the small screen in a new biopic.
Production on Gore is already underway in Rome, Italy, with One Fine Day filmmaker Michael Hoffman directing the project, which will premiere on streaming service Netflix.
According to Variety.com, the shoot will move to the village of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, where the acclaimed U.S. writer famously owned a villa, next month.
Gore spent a lot of time writing in the study of his cliff-side property, known as La Rondinaia, and often entertained guests like Paul Newman, Lauren Bacall, Greta Garbo, Mick Jagger, Andy Warhol, and Susan Sarandon at the home, which he sold in 2004.
Gore, who died in 2012, is known for his novels The City and the Pillar, Burr, and Myra Breckinridge, and his plays The Best Man and Weekend, while he worked as a Hollywood screenwriter on films including Ben Hur, Caligula, and Billy the Kid, too.
Gore will be the first feature film about Vidal’s life, which has previously only been explored onscreen in documentary form.
Kevin Spacey is also set to receive this year’s International Emmy Founders Award. “Kevin is one of the great multi-dimensional talents in our industry,” said Academy President and CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “From his acting in many movies and television shows to his successful stewardship of the Old Vic theater in London and his outstanding deal making and acting prowess in House of Cards, he’s climbed every mountain there is. We are thrilled that he will be accepting the Founders Award.”
