Elizabeth McGovern Returning To Broadway
Elizabeth McGovern is heading back to Broadway after 25 years to star in a revival of J.B. Priestly’s Time and the Conways. The stage show at the Roundabout Theater Company is scheduled to premiere this year in September and run until November at the American Airlines Theater. It will be directed by Rebecca Taichman.
The production centers on a wealthy Yorkshire, England family’s life experiences over a difficult 18 year period following World War One. Elizabeth McGovern will play the matriarch of the family. The drama first premiered in 1938 and the new stage show will serve as the first Broadway revival.
The original play starred Dame Sybil Thorndike and was directed by Irene Hentschel. It was subsequently adapted into a BBC TV production in 1985 and starred Claire Bloom. Harriet Walter also starred in a BBC radio production adaptation in 2014.
Former Downton Abbey star McGovern last appeared on Broadway in 1992’s Hamlet.
