Brie Larson credits Kong: Skull Island for keeping her “grounded” amid her awards success. The actress scooped countless gongs, including a Best Actress Oscar, in 2016 for her role as Ma in Room, about a mother who raises her son in a confined space under the watch of their captor.

While doing the rounds promoting and receiving accolades for the movie, Brie was also filming her new adventure flick Kong opposite Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson, which helped her stay down-to-earth during the glitzy events.

“I think that’s what was so healthy about it – and why I never got super freaked out by the awards season stuff,” she explained to uproxx.com. “Because I would have these really magical, wild weekends in Los Angeles at an award show – and then I’d be back in Australia or back in Vietnam or back in Hawaii, and covered in dirt, running around, trying to run for my life. It was so awesome, and it kept me so grounded through all of that.”

The 27-year-old describes the shoot as really fun, despite the challenges of filming in various countries around the world. She notes that the temperature would change dramatically according to location, but her costume remained the same as Mason Weaver, a photojournalist on an exhibition to discover the creature.

“No matter what, it’s the same tank top and pants and boots. And through rain, through mud, through desert, whatever it was you just keep going. And that was pretty fun. I mean, it was wild,” she smiled. “We were actually out in the jungle every day. We shot very little on a sound stage, so we were outside pretty much the whole time.”

Brie has a busy schedule coming up and another big role in the pipeline is as Captain Marvel in Avengers: Infinity War, released in 2018. She’s thrilled to have joined the comic book universe and can’t wait until the project is out for fans to enjoy.
