Will Smith’s Fans Screaming His Name During Filming Of Collateral Beauty
Will Smith’s fans constantly surrounded the New York shoot for movie Collateral Beauty, and were screaming his real name. The Men in Black actor stars alongside Helen Mirren, Naomie Harris and Kate Winslet in the tearjerker, about a man who deals with the loss of his daughter by writing letters to love, time and death.
The film was shot in New York City and every time the cast shot scenes outside, hundreds of fans would show up and constantly scream his name, which could be distracting for the actor while he was trying to play his character Howard.
“It is interesting when you’re trying to shoot a film on the streets of New York and there’s people screaming ‘Will! Will! WIIILLL!’ and we’re rolling. We’re rolling, my character’s name is Howard,” he joked at the film’s London premiere on Thursday.
His co-star Helen dubbed it the “Will Smith effect” and admitted it was a joy to see the actor’s connection to the public.
“What an honor,” she said. “Not just to play a scene with Will, which is an incredibly enjoyable thing, but to play a scene with Will out on the streets of New York when you see the ‘Will Smith effect’ on people and how beloved he is in the wider world and what a connection he has with people. It was very moving to see that.”

Director David Frankel remarked on the size of the premiere crowd and their cheers for the actor, and added that’s what he observed during all exterior New York shoots. He also said that despite being on the job, Will still managed to give “everybody a piece of himself”.
The Christmas-set drama, which also stars Edward Norton, Michael Pena and Keira Knightley, began hitting cinemas this week.
