Brad Pitt Fighting For Joint Custody Of His Kids
Brad Pitt has filed his response to estranged wife Angelina Jolie’s divorce suit, seeking joint custody of the former couple’s six kids. In the Fight Club star’s legal papers, which dropped on Friday, the actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the marriage split.
Jolie, who is seeking sole custody of the kids, aged from eight to 15, first filed for divorce on September 19. Pitt lists their date of separation as September 15.
The couple reportedly split following an alleged altercation between Brad and his adopted son Maddox, 15, on board a private plane.
An investigation into Brad’s parenting skills was recently extended by officials at California’s Department of Children and Family Services. The voluntary “safety plan” was implemented shortly after Jolie filed for divorce, amid reports the actor had been abusive. It was set to expire on October 20, but it has been extended.
Jolie and Pitt agreed to a temporary custody deal last month after the DCFS officials made their recommendations. The so-called “safety plan” is standard practice in any ongoing child welfare investigation. The former couple also volunteered to participate in individual counseling.
