Monica ‘Takes The High Road’ In Brandy Feud
R&B singer Monica finds it a challenge to “take the high road” in her long-running feud with Brandy. The stars fell out around the time of their Grammy-winning duet The Boy Is Mine in 1998 and have had a fraught relationship ever since, despite reuniting in the studio for It All Belongs to Me in 2012.
Recently, Brandy was asked by a fan on Twitter if she would participate in the #SoGoneChallenge, a social media trend in which users try to freestyle to Monica’s 2003 song So Gone, and Brandy responded, “Child bye!”
Monica was asked about the perceived blast on U.S. talk show The Real on Monday and she said she wasn’t bothered by it because she saw Brandy’s tweet as “a test from God for me.”
“I’ve always thought that she’s one of the most legendary people and has one of the most amazing voices,” she said. “So it was just a test for me to always just take the high road and know that anything that’s meant for you in this life is yours and nobody can stop you or stand in the way of it. So I wasn’t bothered at all.”
Monica added their feud was blown out of proportion but it’s “never been an easy situation” between them. However, she would work with Brandy again if the opportunity arose in the future.
Brandy reportedly responded to Monica’s appearance on The Real by writing a series of hashtags on Instagram, which read: “Hey Hey Hey, #IKnowTHEREALStoryThatEverybodyDoesntKnow.” The singer continued her post by writing: “#NewKeyOnKeyNewMeOnMe #MissSubstance #PositivityIsTheOneThingYouShouldNotFake.”
