Miley Cyrus Felt Sexualized Whenever She Walked A Red Carpet
Miley Cyrus has dodged questions about her rekindled romance with actor Liam Hemsworth, declining to confirm or deny if their engagement is back on. The Wrecking Ball hitmaker reunited with Liam in December 2015, and she has since been photographed wearing the gold diamond sparkler he proposed to her with on her left ring finger once more.
The couple has tried to keep its revived relationship low-key and it appears Miley is intent on keeping fans guessing about whether she and The Hunger Games hunk will be walking down the aisle anytime soon.
The 23-year-old was asked about her ring during a live appearance on U.S. breakfast show Today on Friday, when co-host Savannah Guthrie inquired as to whether there was anything she wanted to share with viewers.
As the camera closed in on her jewellery, Miley pointed out she was wearing three rings, and then playfully brushed off the question as she discussed her other fruit-themed accessories.
“I got this one (watermelon ring) because it was really cute, and I got this one (strawberry ring) because it was really cute,” she smiled, refusing to address her engagement ring.
Her coy response emerges months after Liam also played down the engagement speculation.
“I just find it’s easier to not talk about my personal life because usually I say the wrong thing, so it ends up just complicating things more,” he told Entertainment Tonight in May 2016. “So, I feel like it’s better not to talk about it.”
Miley and Liam, 26, met while filming The Last Song in 2009, and became engaged in 2012, before parting ways in 2013.
Meanwhile, the singer/actress is standing by her decision to never walk a red carpet again, after initially making her feelings known in a recent interview with Elle magazine.
“I will never do a red carpet again,” she told the publication. “Why, when people are starving, am I on a carpet that’s red? Because I’m ‘important’? Because I’m ‘famous’? That’s not how I roll.”
Expanding on her stance on Today, Miley admitted she hates being sexualized on the red carpet by male paparazzi and then having her outfits scrutinized in the media.
“It’s more about the way that, especially as women, we get yelled at to blow them (photographers) a kiss, and like, I don’t feel like blowing you a kiss… It’s like, what is going on? Who are you…?” she bemoaned. “Also… you’re just putting yourself out there for people to talk about; I don’t want people to talk about what I’m wearing – that’s usually why I don’t wear too much…!”
She added, “I don’t love being on camera. I really actually don’t… that’s why I stick my tongue out (for the cameras at events), because it’s the nervous habit of ‘don’t look at me, look at my tongue!’, and it worked for like, five years.”
