Zoe Saldana In Ben Affleck’s Live By Night
Zoe Saldana features alongside Affleck in his adaptation of author Dennis Lehane’s Prohibition-era novel of the same name, about the son of a police captain who becomes involved in a life of organized crime, but she was initially hesitant about signing on as Cuban Graciella Suarez.
Ben Affleck had to personally appeal to Zoe Saldana to convince her to star in his new directorial project Live by Night.
“Ben was putting his dream cast together,” the Dominican beauty recalled to People En Espanol magazine. “It was an era that he has always wanted to explore as a director. I read the script a long time ago and I wasn’t interested.”
However, Zoe, who also has Haitian roots, had a change of heart after Affleck pleaded with the actress to help him ensure his cast was as authentic as possible.
“I remember he told me, ‘There’s nobody else, I don’t want to get somebody with different skin color; in the book she’s described (as) Afro-Latina. You are Latin, you’re super present, you don’t speak Spanglish,'” she remembered. “So I said, ‘OK, let’s do it.'”
Affleck takes on the leading role in the film, which he also directed and produced, while his co-stars include Scott Eastwood, Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller, Taylor Swift’s brother Austin, and Brendan Gleeson, who portrays the Argo star’s dad. R&B singer Miguel will also make his big screen acting debut in the project, playing Saldana’s onscreen brother.
Live by Night is set for release in the U.S. in January 2017.
