Billy Ray Cyrus’ Hit Comedy Lands Second Season
Billy Ray Cyrus is celebrating after his quirky new comedy series, in which he plays a bogus preacher, was picked up for a second series. The country music star and actor’s Still The King has been renewed for season two by CMT network officials.
The Achy Breaky Heart singer will begin shooting the 13-episode second season of the channel’s first original scripted series later this year.
The show debuted last month and became a breakout hit.
Cyrus plays Vernon Brown, a washed-up one-hit wonder who becomes a penniless Elvis impersonator and cons his way into a Nashville, Tennessee-area church after discovering he’s the father of a 15-year-old girl.
“Working on the series has been a career highlight,” said Cyrus. “Thanks to the fans for embracing these crazy characters and all of their beautiful flaws. We’re going to take this mess to a whole new level next season.”
