Zayn Malik Has Broken His silence
Zayn Malik, the now ex-One Direction heart-throb, has broken his silence over why he left the world’s biggest boy band on Wednesday.
Contrary to rumours he quit after refusing to give up his partying lifestyle, Malik, 22, claims he quit One Direction to pursue a solo career.
Malik told The Sun newspaper in Britain he was already planning a solo release, produced by Naughty Boy, who had a worldwide top 10 song in 2013, La La La, and worked with Emeli Sande, Rihanna and Jennifer Hudson.
Malik said the reaction to his departure has been “crazy and wild and a bit mad”.
“But at the same time I’ve never felt more in control in my life. And I feel like I’m doing what’s right – right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good.”
Malik denied there was any tension with the remaining members of One Direction – Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Moran. He did not mention their future plans.
“My band has been really supportive,” he said. “They’ve been cool about it. And they understand that, you know, [One Direction is] not real to me anymore.
Malik said he was much happier having quit because he’s now following his own goals: “I did try to do something that I wasn’t happy doing for a while, for the sake of other people’s happiness.”
He did however say he regretted hurting fans’ feelings: “I feel like I’ve let the fans down but I can’t do this anymore.
“It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not the real me.”
