Monique Says She Was ‘Blackballed’ In Hollywood Post 2010 Oscar Win
2010 Oscar winner Monique has revealed that she was “blackballed” in the film industry after her huge win.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old actress, who took home Best Supporting Actress award for her role in ‘Precious,’ said that she had received a call from actor Lee Daniels, and it was him who told her that has been “blackballed,” “because she didn’t play the game.”
Monique, who’s married to actor-producer Sidney Hicks and has admitted to have the reputation of being “difficult,” had famously not campaigned for her Oscar win in the year leading up to the honor.
After her role of the abusive, unemployed mother opposite Gabourey Sidibe, though the 47-year-old actress was offered some major roles by her former director, including Oprah Winfrey’s character in Daniels’s ‘The Butler’, “it all just went away,” said the actress.
However, Mo’Nique still stands affirm on her ground that of being mistreated by by Hollywood critics, saying that “you stand up for what’s right.”
Daniels had issued a statement in response to her words saying “Mo’Nique is a creative force to be reckoned with. Her demands through Precious were not always in line with the campaign. This soured her relationship with the Hollywood community. I consider her a friend. I have and will always think of her for parts that we can collaborate on, however the consensus among the creative teams and powers thus far were to go another way with these roles.”
