Kanye West’s Grammys Rant Sees Beck Album Sales Soar
Ranting rapper Kanye West’s recent tirade against Beck’s Grammy win has seen sales of the Indie singer’s award-winning album soar by more than 1000 per cent.
Beck’s win over fellow nominee Beyonce in the coveted Best Album category on Monday prompted West to jokingly try and snatch the award, as the ‘Blue Moon’ singer prepared to give his acceptance speech.
However, West couldn’t resist launching into one of his famous rants later, in an interview with E! Entertainment, slamming Beck for not handing over his award to Beyonce.
“At this point we tired of it because what happens is when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats in music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration,” West said, although it wasn’t quite clear who he was referring to.
Beck said in his interview that he was unfazed by the ‘Only One’ singer’s comments and will certainly be thanking him now as his album ‘Morning’ Phase soars up Amazon’s album chart.
Sales have risen by a massive 1342 per cent, according to The Guardian, and the compilation is currently sitting in second place on the Best Albums and Vinyl chart, just behind Sam Smith’s debut album, which was the hot favorite to take out the Best Album gong.
Meanwhile, the lead singer of 90’s band Garbage, Shirley Manson, has leapt to Beck’s defence in an open letter on Facebook, calling West “small and petty and spoilt”.
“You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK,” wrote the Queer singer.
“Grow up and stop throwing your toys around.”
